This cultural space is located next to the century-old Temple of Encino, occupying what was once the curial house, located in one of the most beautiful squares and gardens of the city, the garden of the Triana neighborhood, famous for being the birthplace of great bullfighting figures, this neighborhood is home to the Posada Museum, which has an enormous and rich collection dedicated to the work of perhaps the most famous artist from Aguascalientes, the father of the international symbol of the Day of the Dead festival, La Calavera Garbancera, "La Catrina".
José Guadalupe Posada Born in Aguascalientes in 1852, from a very young age he was inclined to learn drawing, he received his first lessons at the municipal academy, very soon and thanks to his enormous talent, Posada would end up working as a lithographer's apprentice in the workshop of Trinidad Pedroza, who published a pamphlet with the name of El Jicote.
This museum was inaugurated on September 16, 1972 by the then president of the republic Luis Echeverría Álvarez, the governor Francisco Guel Jiménez and by the poet and cultural promoter Victor Sandoval, in order to exhibit and preserve the work of Posada and to promote the visual arts, especially traditional engraving. Today it is a museum through which a large number of artists of great recognition in the world of art and popular culture have passed.
The museum's collection is extremely rich and is made up of various collections:
- “Posada, the genius of the print”, made up of plates and prints by José Guadalupe Posada.
- “Graphic Work of Manuel Manilla”, a contemporary artist and co-worker of Posada.
- Prize-winning works from the José Guadalupe Posada National Competition (now the International Print Biennial).
- Donations, such as those made by important artists such as Pablo O'Higgins, Ismael Guardado and Gustavo Monroy.
- Acquisitions made by the government itself, as well as works on loan from the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA) and the Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP).
