Tres Centurias Square
Square Tres Centurias is the heart of the traditional Station District, a recreational and cultural space that is part of the industrial heritage rescue project Tres Centurias Trust, which seeks to give new life to the spaces that once formed part of the national workshops and Railway Station, one of the most important railway centers in Mexico and America.
It gets its name from the construction dates of the buildings that make up the space, which were built at the end of the 19th century, in the 20th century and in the 21st century. In this way, the plaza is a door that connects the past with our present, bearing witness to the passage of time and the social, cultural and political changes that have taken place in Aguascalientes and in Mexico.
The history of this site began more than a hundred years ago, with the construction of the Railway Station in 1903, which would bring a new rhythm of life to the city, with the arrival of the first foreign investors and workers, in Aguascalientes would rise what would become the National Workshop of the Mexican Railway, where machines that would make history would be repaired and built.
Similarly, the increase in communications and social mobility that Aguascalientes would experience would leave a mark on the idiosyncrasy of this provincial town, being the birthplace of great artists, politicians, businessmen and people who in one way or another shaped the city we enjoy today.
However, the days of the passenger train came to an end with the 20th century, after several decades in which these spaces were completely abandoned, at the initiative of the government and citizens, the purchase of the land began and the subsequent development of the plan that would seek to dignify our history, beginning in the mid-90s the rescue of this valuable heritage.
The Plaza de las Tres Centurias was inaugurated on March 4, 2003, seeking to be an attractive point for tourism and for the dissemination of Aguascalientes' historical and cultural heritage.
Today, this site houses the Station Museum, which also has a gallery of temporary exhibitions, the beautiful station garden, the railroad museum with pieces, photographs and models related to the state's railroad history, an events hall, various businesses and government offices, as well as original engines and cars as important as engine No. 2708, known as "La Mocha", or No. 40, the first of its kind built in Mexico, and the Lázaro Cárdenas Presidential Car, which will allow you to take a trip back in time, to the glorious era of steam engines in Mexico.
