This architectural gem was the headquarters of the old “Hotel Francia”. It is located in the historic center of the capital city, right on the corner of Francisco I. Madero Avenue, Moctezuma and Exedra Plaza. Its construction process was conceived in 1915 for Don Felipe Nieto y Obregón.
If you look at its façade, you can notice an incredible and harmonious plurality of architectural elements, always present under a unitary proposal and an intricate stereotomic line that presents columns, entablatures, truncated pediments, flat corbels, stipes, voussoirs, balusters that make a unique and unparalleled architectural ensemble, at the same time managing to give it a French air, honoring the expression of the name of the building.
In this hotel, Juan Santiago Garrido Vargas was inspired and composed the famous song “The cockfight”, which would ultimately become the anthem of the San Marcos national fair.
Today, this building houses the first “Sanborns” department store to arrive in the State.
