This neoclassical style building was built in 1903, under the design and direction of the self-taught architect Refugio Reyes Rivas, to serve as the headquarters of the Catholic school.
In 1915, after expansions and reconstructions, it became a girls' secondary school and soon the National Normal School. In October 1975, on the 400th anniversary of the official founding of the city, Aguas Calientes opened to the public as the Museo Aguascalientes.
The interior consists of two courtyards, the first with rectangular columns and lowered arches with carved keystones. The second is the work of José Refugio Reyes Rivas, with a beautiful garden and a stone fountain in its centre.
It has five permanent rooms where you will find works by Saturnino Herran "The most painter of Mexicans and the most Mexican of painters", Gabriel Fernandez Ledesma, Juan Juan de Mata y Pacheco, Jesus F. Contreras and Francisco Diaz de Leon, as well as two temporary rooms.
Its facilities host conferences, concerts, book presentations, courses, workshops and much more.
