This natural area is located between the municipalities of Aguascalientes and Calvillo, where the ejido of El Ocote is located. This site has an approximate area of 650 hectares and forms part of the canyon system of the Sierra del Laurel in Aguascalientes.
Thanks to its geography, as well as its abundant flora and fauna, this place was inhabited by pre-Hispanic civilizations as early as 575 AD. These settlers left traces that are still visible today, such as the famous cave paintings created on the smooth walls of the cliffs.
This natural site is known for its ecotourism activities, as visitors can practice mountaineering, hiking, fishing, mountain biking, and rappelling. There are also safe camping areas, as well as food services, medical care, and restrooms available for visitors.
El Ocote is located approximately 45 kilometers southwest of the city of Aguascalientes, along the Aguascalientes–Villa Hidalgo highway.
